There are hacks for everything, including learning music!

Break it Down

Use colors. I always use highlighters and/or colored pencils in lesson to reveal repeated lines, patterns, and forms. Always notice when a bit of music comes back repeatedly and mark it with color!

5 Minutes is Better than 0

Sometimes five minutes of practice time is all you have. It’s OK. Just do 5 minutes and don’t worry about it being perfect.

Take it Easy

The easiest thing I can say is the hardest thing for you to do: RELAX. Also, playing “easy” music that isn’t at your highest playing level is good for your brain, so do it regularly.

Count & Reward

Keep a log of your musical practice and set distinct goals. If you meet them, treat yourself to something nice!

Guitar is the best portable folk instrument. Learn to sing and strum or to imitate your favorite riffs. I am the author of my own beginning guitar method called I Love Music Theory for Guitar.

My singers are the best in the area. Many have sung in show choir and local theater productions. I use recording in order to get stellar results fast.

Kimberly Steele has been dedicated to music education since 1995. Kimberly completed her Music Theory degree at Chicago Musical College, and has been teaching as her main career ever since. Over the years, she has taught hundreds of students.

Learning music is not always easy, but I can help make it pleasant and fun. Your goal is mainly to be a better musician than you were yesterday, and that means immersion. Every little bit helps.
